FDA grants accelerated approval to AstraZeneca's Etcamah for ESR1-mutated metastatic breast cancer π
β
The FDA has granted accelerated approval to Etcamah (camizestrant) for adults with HR-positive, HER2-negative locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer with an ESR1 mutation detected during aromatase inhibitor and CDK4/6 inhibitor therapy. Used in combination with a CDK4/6 inhibitor, Etcamah demonstrated a median progression-free survival of 16 months versus 9.2 months on continued aromatase inhibitor therapy. Notably, this is the first FDA approval of a cancer therapy guided by ctDNA detection of a resistance mutation before imaging confirms disease progression - though confirmatory studies are required to verify clinical benefit. The Guardant360 CDx assay was also authorised as a companion diagnostic.
β
βWomen living with metastatic breast cancer face an uphill battle as their tumors continuously evolve to escape treatment. We owe them every weapon in our arsenal. Todayβs approval delivers a win to these patients by granting them a targeted therapy designed specifically to overcome resistance, giving them more time before their disease progresses.β
β Kyle Diamantas, Acting Commissioner, FDA

β
Canada's largest fertility network, The Fertility Partners, has sold Illume Fertility - serving patients across Connecticut and New York - to IVI RMA North America, with the transaction closing on 3 September. Illume will continue operating under IVI RMA, offering IVF, fertility preservation and third-party reproduction. The deal reflects broader consolidation in reproductive medicine, with global players expanding US footprints while regional networks sharpen their home-market focus.
β
"For TFP, this is about focus. Our strongest opportunities are here in Canada, and this transaction allows us to put our full attention on building the leading fertility network in the country."

Ananya Health lands $100K to advance portable cervical cancer prevention device toward FDA clearance π¬
β
EHA Impact Ventures has made its third follow-on investment in Ananya Health - a $100K seed follow-on to advance the company's battery-powered cryoablation device toward FDA 510(k) clearance by mid-2027. Unlike traditional cryoablation, Ananya's device is portable, affordable and usable by clinicians who already perform pelvic exams - designed to work equally for a midwife in Nairobi and an OB-GYN in Chicago.
β
"Every clinical milestone we've hit has been built on the assumption that this device needs to work for a midwife in Nairobi and an OB-GYN in Chicago alike. EIV's reinvestment moves us closer to FDA clearance."
