Ferring to acquire Gameto for up to $1.38 billion

Ferring to acquire Gameto for up to $1.38 billion 🥚

‍

Swiss pharma company Ferring has agreed to acquire US fertility start-up Gameto in a deal worth up to $1.38 billion, depending on development, regulatory and commercial milestones. The main draw is Gameto’s Fertilo platform, which is currently in Phase III. It uses stem cell-derived ovarian support cells to mature eggs in the lab, which could cut the roughly two weeks of hormone injections needed for traditional IVF down to a few days. Gameto is also developing Ameo, a cell therapy for menopause.

‍

"By combining Gameto's scientific innovation with our expertise and global reproductive-medicine platform, we see an opportunity to advance new approaches in fertility care and reach more patients worldwide."
— Dr Dina Turner, CEO and co-founder, Gameto

Precisio Biotix receives Gates Foundation funding for new BV treatment 🔬

‍

Precisio Biotix Therapeutics has received new funding from the Gates Foundation to advance a potential treatment for bacterial vaginosis (BV). BV affects an estimated 23–29% of women of reproductive age, and it returns in 50–80% of women after antibiotics. Precisio’s engineered lysins are designed to target the harmful bacteria behind BV, including antibiotic-resistant bacteria hidden in biofilms, while sparing beneficial bacteria. The funding will move candidates through preclinical development towards clinical testing..

‍

“We are not simply developing another antibiotic, we are developing a targeted antimicrobial designed around the biology of BV - to attack the harmful bacteria and their biofilms while preserving the beneficial bacteria needed for vaginal health. With the help of Gates Foundation, we are one step closer to bringing our treatment to millions of women worldwide."
— Dr. Mya Thandar, Vice President of Discovery, Precisio Biotix
